Over the 21 years I've been in business, I have helped landowners manage thousands of acres. I became interested in consulting when I saw a real need for the small private landowner to be represented in timber sale transactions. You can benefit greatly by using my services, due to the lessons I have learned over the years. With the enormous variability of timber products and their values, which are constantly changing, your timber is truly unique and worth what someone is willing to pay. Selling timber is something you don't do everyday. If you do your own taxes, treat your own medical problems, and do all your families legal work, then you may want to sell your own timber. |

Surveys have shown that landowners that have sold timber without the aid of a consultant are usually dissatisfied with the end results, but those that have used consultants are very satisfied |

Why Use a Consultant A consultant minimizes the risk of economic or legal problems the landowner faces when selling forest products, due to the use of a detailed contract or deed which I provide. My services pay for themselves. Just as an employer can make more money by hiring a employee, a timberland owner can expect the same by using my services.

Many people want to preserve their woods as is, but the forest is a dynamic environment, which will change with time. Good management simply speeds up the inevitable natural process, while letting you cash in on the slow growing trees that would eventually end up on the forest floor.
Your family's forestland is a very valuable asset. As a forestland owner you have the responsibility in making management decisions that will benefit your family's investment for years to come. I have seen so many people make poor decisions and later regret that they did not seek the advice of a professional forester. Make sure your decisions will achieve your family's short and long term objectives. |

Questions You Should Ask Yourself If you have recently bought land with timber on it, did you establish a value for the timber (original cost basis)? If you have recently sold any timber, did you reduce your profits from the sale using the original cost basis? Are you doing everything possible in order to reach your objectives for your timberland goals? Is your stand of timber growing at an acceptable rate, or would it benefit from a select thinning? Would you be better off cutting the current stand and planting genetic superior pines? Should you sell your low quality, small diameter hardwoods and plant pines? If you have sold timber in the past without using a consultant, were you totally satisfied with the price and the quality of the job? After you sold your timber did you find out that you could have gotten a better price using a consultant and still end up with more money in your pocket?
The wood lot you own is not just a patch of woods anymore, but a valuable family asset. The decision you make now, concerning timber management, greatly affects this valuable family investment for years to come. |
